Artist Statement
I am a multimedia artist. My artwork is like a chapter book. The themes I refer to most often are about those who are underdogs. Using different techniques and modes, I bring together the content, form, and color.
Two chapters, or examples, of these projects, are my work about professional and amateur boxing and the work I did about the Paralympic athletes. Since 2005 I have used ceramic, wood, and interactive sound directly in various explorations of nature, climate change, and most lately Covid times.
When making sculptures and drawings my mind and hands take from minimalism, abstract expressionism, Chinese brushwork, figurative painting, fashion makeup, and chance. I mix and manipulate the materials as my mind jumps from one form to another. There is a moment when I recognize what is there, the form stays, it becomes the sculpture, the drawing. I was born in Bilbao, Spain, but as mentioned above I lived in New York City for forty years before coming up here to Cummington for the last three years. I have a BA in Education, Four years of Journalism and a Masters in Interactive Telecommunications from New York University.
