Cummington will transform the former Berkshire Trail Elementary School, now the Berkshire Trail Building (BTB), into a climate‑ready Resilience Hub with a local and regional emergency shelter, a USDA‑funded $1M regional food hub, and climate‑resilient landscaping such as a floodway garden and native pollinator gardens.
The MVP Program is a partnership between state and local communities to build climate resilience through grant-funded projects. Communities start with a planning grant, become an MVP-certified community, and then are eligible for action grant funding. A one sheet on the program is available at this link: https://www.mass.gov/doc/fy27-mvp-action-grant-one-pager/download.
Look out for more details and invitations to take part, which will be announced on the Town of Cummington website: https://cummington-ma.gov/Content.php?7#CummingtonAwardedMVPGrantforClimateResilience
